What 'Quality Checked' Actually Means at PYAAS

Two words appear on almost every packet of milk in India: quality checked. They show up so often, and explain so little, that most of us have stopped reading them. I am Kushagra Shekhar Kaushik, Co-founder and CTO of PYAAS, and I build the traceability system that has to stand behind those two words. So here is exactly what the phrase quality checked means when PYAAS says it — and what we refuse to let it mean.

The problem with “quality checked”

On its own, “quality checked” is one of the emptiest promises in food. Checked by whom? Against what? How often? You are almost never told, and the vagueness is the point — it sounds reassuring while committing to nothing. The whole reason PYAAS exists is that I got tired of the gap between what a label claims and what you can actually verify. A claim you cannot check is just advertising. So we treat quality checked not as a slogan but as a set of specific, boring, repeatable steps that we are willing to show you.

What we actually check

For us, checking a batch of milk means asking a short, honest set of questions before it is ever allowed near a customer:

• Is it fresh and cold? Milk is only as good as its cold chain, so temperature and timing from the farm onward are the first thing we track.
• Is it what it should be? We check the milk’s basic composition — its fat and its solids-not-fat — because those numbers tell us the milk is real, whole and undiluted.
• Has anything been added? We screen for the common adulterants that plague Indian milk, from added water to substances that have no business being there.
• Does the farm sign off? Before any instrument, there is a human check at the farm by the people who milked the cows — the farmers at our named Gonda farms, like Ram at Sri Radha Mohan Dairy Farm and Harsh Singh at Gonard Dairy.

A check nobody can see is not a check

Here is the part I care about most as CTO, and the part that makes PYAAS different: the check is only real if you can see it. Any brand can claim it checks its milk. Almost none will show you the record. So every PYAAS pack carries a QR code, and scanning it takes you to that specific batch — the exact farm it came from, the farmer who tends the herd, and that batch’s quality record. That is what Know Your Milk means in practice, and you can see a sample batch record for yourself. My job is to make sure the link between the physical pack in your hand and the record on the screen can never be faked or quietly edited.

Why we don’t say “lab certified”

You will notice I keep saying quality checked, and never “lab certified” or “100% pure guaranteed.” That is deliberate. Those absolute words are easy to print and hard to honour, and the moment a brand leans on them it usually stops being honest. Quality checked is a promise I can actually keep and actually show you: these are the checks, this is the batch, here is the record. I would rather under-claim in words and over-deliver in evidence than do it the other way around. Honesty is not a marketing angle for PYAAS — it is the product.

What this means when PYAAS milk launches

Our A2 Bilona ghee ships across India today, and it already runs on this thinking. Fresh PYAAS A2 cow milk is next: it launches in Lucknow from August 2026 and will expand across Uttar Pradesh from there. When it does, every single batch will pass these checks before it reaches your door, and every carton will carry the QR code that lets you see the proof. The A2 milk itself comes from the A2 cows in our Holstein Friesian and Sahiwal herds at the named farms in Gonda.
