Why Traceability Is a Promise, Not a Feature

A customer once asked me a question I could not immediately answer, and it changed how I think about this entire company. She did not ask whether our milk was pure. She asked how she was supposed to know. I am Aryan Sharma, and I have spent long enough around dairy to understand that "trust us" is not really an answer. It is the sound a company makes when it has nothing to show you.

At PYAAS, our tagline is three words: Know Your Milk. Traceability is how we keep that promise. I want to explain why I refuse to describe it as a feature, because the difference here is not word-play. It is the whole point of what we are building.

A feature is something you add. A promise is something you keep.

Most food companies treat traceability as a feature: a QR code stamped on the pack late in the process, a nice-to-have for the marketing team. Add it, and the product looks more modern. Remove it, and nothing about the milk itself changes. It sits on top of the product like a sticker.

I see it the other way around. Traceability is not decoration on top of the product; it is the product's spine. If I cannot tell you which farm a litre came from, which farmer milked the cow, and what that batch's quality record says, then the word "pure" on the carton is just ink. Dairy traceability is what converts trust from a feeling into evidence, and evidence is the only kind of trust that survives a bad day.

What traceability actually means at PYAAS

When we say a pack is traceable, we mean something specific and almost boringly literal. Every pack carries a QR code. Scan it, and you see three things we cannot hide behind:

  • The farm the milk came from, by name, not an anonymous collection route.
  • The farmer who cared for the cows and did the milking that morning.
  • That batch's quality record, so you are checking the milk in your hand, not a claim made about milk in general.

Our partner farms are real places with real people. We work with Sri Radha Mohan Dairy Farm in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, where a farmer named Ram looks after a herd of 76 cows, alongside Gonard Dairy, run by Harsh Singh, and Ranjeet Singh Dairy Farm, run by Ranjeet Singh. The herds are Holstein Friesian and Sahiwal, and our A2 milk comes from the A2 cows within them. I can name them because I have stood in their sheds. That is the standard I hold us to: if I cannot name it, I will not print it. You can meet the farms behind every batch for yourself.

Why "trust us" is the weakest thing a dairy can say

Indian families have been asked to trust milk for generations, and many have been let down. The problem was never that people stopped caring about quality. It is that they were never given a way to verify it. Once milk from thousands of farms is pooled together, no one on earth can honestly tell you where your glass came from. Traceability is our refusal to pool away the truth.

When you make a promise verifiable, you also make yourself accountable, and that is precisely why I want it. A feature protects the brand. A promise protects the customer. If a batch is not right, traceability is what lets us find it, own it and fix it, instead of hiding it inside an average.

The QR code is the easy part

People assume the technology is the hard part. It is not. My co-founder, Kushagra Shekhar Kaushik, is our CTO, and the system he has built to link every QR code back to a specific farm, farmer and batch record is genuinely careful work. But software is only ever as honest as the data you feed it. The hard part is the discipline behind the scan: recording the truth at the farm, quality checking every batch, and being willing to show a customer the result even on a day we would rather not. Technology does not create trust. It just makes trust harder to fake, in either direction.

The promise we are building toward

Right now, our A2 Bilona cow ghee ships across India, and every jar carries the same traceable promise as everything else we make. Our fresh A2 cow milk is launching in Lucknow from August 2026 and will expand across Uttar Pradesh from there, and I would rather get that promise right than rush it wide. We are building toward a ₹100 crore dairy brand, but I have never believed scale is the goal. Trust is the goal; scale is just what happens when enough families decide they can rely on you.

So when someone asks me whether traceability is a feature of PYAAS, my honest answer is no. It is the promise the whole company is organised around. Everything else — the ghee, the milk, the packaging, the app — is just how we keep it. If you want to see what that looks like, scan a pack, or start at Know Your Milk and follow it all the way to the record behind the code. The proof was always supposed to be in your hands. That is the entire point.

Common questions.

What does dairy traceability mean at PYAAS?

It means every pack carries a QR code that opens the exact farm the milk came from, the farmer who milked the cows, and that batch's quality record. Traceability is not a marketing badge for us — it is how we keep our Know Your Milk promise, so you are checking the milk in your hand rather than trusting a general claim.

Why does Aryan Sharma call traceability a promise instead of a feature?

Because a feature is something a company can add or remove without changing the product, while a promise is something it is accountable for keeping. Framing dairy traceability as a promise makes PYAAS verifiable and answerable to the family drinking the milk, which is exactly the point.

Is PYAAS milk available now?

PYAAS A2 Bilona cow ghee ships across India today, and each jar carries the same traceable record. Fresh A2 cow milk is launching in Lucknow from August 2026 and will expand across Uttar Pradesh from there. Every product, present and upcoming, is traceable by QR to the farm, the farmer and that batch.
